Bring a New Optimism to the Climate Change Discussion

care2 petitionsite actionAlert

Hi Shannah,The SequelThere has been a shift in the discussion about climate change. The dread has passed, and now the true heroes are making it clear that this is a problem that can be solved if we approach it with optimism, ingenuity and creativity.Tell Congress that you want to see them encourage this climate optimism with new energy technologies and legislation!

Fred Krupp, the president of Environmental Defense Fund, and his colleague Miriam Horn tell the story of their search to find solutions to global warming.

Here is what the author himself says about his new book, Earth: The Sequel.

On my journey, I met inventors and entrepreneurs remaking the way we meet our energy needs.

They are the Thomas Edisons and Wright Brothers of the 21st Century. And, they are ready and waiting to scale their inventions and radically transform the $5 trillion energy business.

These include such brazen inventions as flying windmills and artificial carbon-eating trees. It means reinventing everything from cars to concrete, replacing the old, dumb, centralized electrical grid with a smart, multidirectional energy network. And it involves remaking the economics of the rainforest.

Sign our petition today to tell Congress that this kind of optimism and creative action is what we want to see taking place in our government. >>

Sincerely,Emily

Greenpeace
  Dear Shannah,
Greenpeace activists and scientists have traveled to the bottom of the ocean floor and deep into our forests to gather information and to bear witness to help save the planet. Today we are exploring how we tell these and other stories to our supporters, and we hope you can help! You’re invited to participate in a short survey to help us find out more about our online community. Specifically, we want to learn a little more about who you are and what kinds of communications you find most useful from Greenpeace.

Take the Greenpeace survey

Our goal is to create an online community that is devoted to environmental progress and that meets your needs for information, communication, and action. Your anonymous responses will go far to help us plan our outreach campaigns for the coming year.

Don’t Let Bush Administration Take Our Giant Sequoias!

care2 petitionsite actionAlert

Hi Shannah,

When we all thought the Bush administration couldn’t get any worse for our environment and natural places, we hear about possible plans to log the Giant Sequoias.

It’s time this area was truly protected so these attacks will stop for good. >>

In the past few years there have been numerous attempts by the Bush administration to open the Giant Sequoia National Monument to logging. Can you imagine that? Logging the Sequoias? It’s just completely absurd.

The Sierra Club has listed the Giant Sequoia National Monument as one of the 52 most important places to protect in the next 10 years. These magnificent forests provide essential habitat for the California spotted owl, Pacific fisher, and myriad other plants and animals.

Please sign the petition today to bring real protection to the Giant Sequoia National Monument. >>

Thank You for taking action!

Sincerely,Emily

Dinner invitation

 Shannah —

Refusing money from PACs and Washington lobbyists makes this campaign different in one very important respect.

We are not beholden to anyone but you.

We’ve rejected the traditional Washington fundraising strategy — including countless dinners hosted by lobbyists — and put our trust in millions of Americans owning a piece of this campaign.

Senator Clinton and Senator McCain have a different approach.

Both have accepted millions from lobbyists and special interests, and both have relied on high dollar donors for the majority of their funding.

This campaign is different, and I’m looking forward to supporters like you joining me for a different kind of fundraising dinner.

If you make a donation in any amount between now and 11:59 pm EDT on Monday, March 31st, you could join me and three other supporters for an intimate dinner for five:

On Monday, at 11:44 am, Bonnie Locchetta of Rushville, Indiana made her first donation of $25.

I’m pleased to announce that Bonnie will be one of my dinner guests. Here’s what she told us about herself:

“I come from an incredibly Republican county in a little tiny town.

I’ve always been the rebel in my family. I had a fantastic government teacher in high school who really opened my eyes to a lot of things. I haven’t always voted Democratic, but I wanted to vote for someone who spoke to me personally.

Now my kids are doing well in school, but I’m praying for scholarships. I have no savings, and I don’t know how I’m going to put them through college.

I have never contributed to a political candidate before, but I have started an organizing group in my very Republican county. My children are very active in their support, and I will do all I can to show my neighbors that together, YES WE CAN.”

I’m looking forward to having dinner with Bonnie, but there are still three seats left at the table. Will you be in one of them?

If you make a donation by 11:59 pm EDT on Monday, March 31st, you could join us:

We’ll pay for your trip and the meal — all you need to bring is your story and your ideas about how to make this a better country for all Americans.

Small donations from ordinary Americans have set our campaign apart and allowed us to reject the influence of Washington lobbyists and special interest groups. Not only is your support the key to our success, it’s essential to reclaiming a government that is of the people, by the people, and for the people.

I hope you will make a donation now to participate in this opportunity. Own a part of this campaign and strengthen your role in our movement:

https://donate.barackobama.com/dinner

Together we can put an end to pay-for-influence politics.

We can turn the page in Washington, and it all begins with you.

Thank you for your support,

Barack
